Spirits/Revenants

Those of us who do or have played Runescape probably know about some of the strongest enemies in the game: Revenants. They wander the Wilderness, attacking anyone who is close to their level, and they heal some damage done to them for every attack you do, and they have a very powerful offense.

I think we should implement something like that in AO, except they could be vengeful spirits. These vengeful spirits wander in the bowels and forests of Alagaesia, but they avoid cities, for the most part. The ratio of your likeliness to encounter a regular spirit instead of a vengeful one would be about 2:1, so on average, every two spirits you meet, you will also meet one vengeful spirit. These vengeful spirits only attack levels that are about 15 below their own to 15 above their own, and they vary in levels. However, they are very powerful, and heal slightly for every attack you do to them. These spirits attack on sight.

A game could also be associated with these vengeful spirits, which we could call Spirit Hunting. In Spirit Hunting, you hunt the vengeful spirits, and it teaches survival skills. For example, you will need food, doctors, and combat medics to heal yourself as you get hurt, and you can fish for the food, which you then cook by roasting a fire using wood from trees that you can find around Alagaesia, that you chop down with a hatchet.

Should we implement something this? In my opinion, Revenant hunting is the only fun thing I do on Runescape anymore, and it's pretty fun. We should call these vengeful spirits something else than just vengeful spirits, however.

I dont like my head, get rid of it please? And i don't like this idea, what if i were wandering through a forest on a quest and got into a fight? It would suck, because I would have to restock on items. Also, will there be a teleport in AO? I think there should be, otherwise traveling will be horrid. RS traveling without teleports suck, and it is probably much smaller then AO is going to be, but I dont know the comparative sizes so i cant say much.

I think the Spirit hunting thing you mentioned sounds great. Like there would be a teleport to a forest area, mountain, river, lake, sand etc. areas and you'd choose in what area you'd want to go and each would be different and each area would have lot of parts. Like this maybe:
Forest area:
First stage for lvl. 15 - 45
Second stage for lvl. 45 - 75
..so on, and at the same time all other areas would have stages for different levels and each area would be very different and so would be the stages. And together with that there would be monsters with set level wandering around the stages AND also some randomly appearing, the same level as you or if in group multiple spirits would appear for each one in the group. And than maybe if you were a beast master or practicing sorcery or a shade you could capture those things and call them as your companions or something like that. This however could be done at a very high level of something.
About spirites wandering around free everywhere....well I don't really think it's such a good idea, I mean if you wanna have a go at them go to the special area where they wander. Or maybe there could be some of those spirites as a part of a quest but I really don't think they should be just everywhere.

Im just thinking because some of the suggested quests were like: Travel throug a forest to kill ra'zac and im just worried: Well, if i have to kill a bunch of revenants, how am i ever going to beat the quest? Also, unrelated, what will the backpack size be?

This idea is good on some ways, and bad in others. Bad= any adventurers could encounter too many of these, and die. It would also be quite annoying to continue to encounter these over, and over again. Good= It would be good for training, and also it would be fun. As a result, I think we should encorperate them. However, not just everywhere. We could have them in hard-to-reach areas/unpopulated areas (traffic wise). They should stay very far away from roads, cities, rivers and all areas where there is a good probability there will be people. It should be so that they would never encounter a person who was minding there own business. People who wanted to hunt them should have parties where they just camp out in a revenant-populated areas with people that have a variety of classes. If it is like this, then I say aye.

Well like I said I like the idea it just needs tweaking a bit. For instance i would ake it so there in a wilderness of some sort. So they don't kill you while you go about doing quests.

Hmmm...then so be it. In Runescape, there were many quests and desires that took you into the Wilderness, but I kinda liked it. Besides, Revenants/Vengeful Spirits vary in level, and they can only attack you if you are 15 levels above or below them. There could also be a level 5 spirit, a level 40 spirit, a level 80 spirit, a level 120 spirit, and so on.

An excellent thought. About the places where you can encounter them, though..... I suggest that you assign a place that will have a higher concentration of spirits (vengeful or not) than others, simply because it's very isolated there: The Gray Heath, the place where Eragon sentences Sloan to go to Ellesmera. What do you think?? Also, I suggest that you change the ratio of spirits:vengeful spirits to 3:1 or something, that way the hunting parties won't have to restock their supplies that frequently.

I have another area for consideration for the worst revenants. . . I've been planning on having an area where the best of the best baddies are found. The Ice Cap. (Where Jarnunvosk Died) Of course, you have to be a high level to even consider going there, let alone, fighting the powerful enemies that lurk around in the snow. Maybe that could be a perfect place for high level spirits. Then the lower levels lurk in the Spine. (Or maybe the haunted marshes on the south-western corner of Alagaesia?)

That sounds like the best idea so far.Or well as to where there going to be.Maybe put a few really dangerous spirits in the spine but make it very hard to find one there just for the fun of not knowing whether or not you are facing a really dangerous spirit or and easy one.

Yeah, maybe there could be a few dangerous non-agressive sprits in the Spine that won't attack you unless you can attack them.

Ya I cannot stand when I'm just minding my own business in a game, and some random beast decides to have a go at you. Its extremely annoying, whether there are above or below your level. I don't think we should have any beasts that attack without being attacked first
